I BELIEVE...
Â
WE EACH DESERVE TO HAVE THE FREEDOM AND MEANS TO CHASE CREATIVITY AND CURIOSITY WHEREVER IT LEADS.Â
Turns out, building a profitable photography business can be the perfect way to fund an extraordinary life full of freedom, flexibility and adventure.
How it began...
IâLL BE HONEST. I'M A MATH NERD...
Spreadsheets are my love language and there was no arguing with the sums in front of me.
I was pregnant with my second child, and I had just discovered that with two kids, my entire $35,000 salary was going to go to childcare.
I loved my job at the Aviary... but this math is too depressing to ignore. I then knew I needed to replace my income in a way that would give me more freedom and flexibility.
This is how my photography business began. I started by selling $197 all-inclusive sessions, all shot and edited with the help of babysitters and naptimes.
AT FIRST - I WAS STOKED: IT FELT LIKE I WAS MAKING SO MUCH MONEY!
But then the (literal) penny dropped...
I discovered that in order to really make this business sustainable and scalable â I needed to spend less time per client AND bring in more revenue (while keeping more of it!)
Around the same time I attended an industry conference, and I learned about selling products. Shortly after that I had my first $5000 sale, and what I believed was possible for my little business exponentially expanded.
From that moment-on, everything changed forever⌠my mindset, my strategy, my belief, my business and my bank account.
Over the next 2 years I built a six-figure photography business by focusing on the âbread and butterâ results that most photographers can easily achieve: $2-3k average sales.
SURE, IT WASNâT ALL SMOOTH SAILING. I TRIED AND FAILED AT LOTS OF THINGS
Especially marketing. IYKYK
But there were a few major milestones along the way that helped me learn one very powerful lesson: Nearly all of my big wins were down to my pricing strategies. Not only had I discovered ways to organize my price list that led to my desired sale nearly every single session.
I also discovered how the messaging of what I was offering HAD to change as the price went up. Without being able to elicit the value of what I offered it was very difficult to actually book clients!
We all know you canât always plan your way to a magical life.
But I believe that if you can hold a vision for the freedom that feels most juicy to you, and if youâre passionate and committed, you can create it through your photography business.
Bottom line? If you have the desire to run a profitable part-time or full-time portrait photography business - you have the ability to do it. Iâm here to help you do it faster.
